Hello, my name is Tim. And I make and sharpen knives.
I moved here from Michigan's Upper Peninsula some time ago for work. And since 2020 I have settled in Owego, at the end of a peaceful dead end road. I have found Owego to be a wonderful, vibrant little town with a lot to offer, and a many wonderful people. I'm happy to be able to call it my home.
My day job is in the IT world. Attending meetings, working with computers, servers, interfaces, and data. It's the exact opposite of my work with the making, repairing, sharpening, and maintaining of knives, and other edged tools. I enjoy using my mind as much as using my hands.
I began sharpening knives about 30 some years ago. My father had taught me sharpen knives on a whetstone as a young boy. Just like he learned from his father, on so on. As I grew older I began sharpening other things. Axes, hatchets, scissors and eventually most anything else you can think of.
With my ever growing experience with sharpening various knives and tools, I also grew my experience of the tools used to carryout the job.
Learning at first by hand with a whetstone, then Japanese water stones, then moving up t
o powered tools like wet grinders and belt grinders. Each of these tools have their pro's and con's and also their place in my shop.
Sharpening been a passion for me ever since I successfully sharpened my first knife. That excitement has followed me through all these years along with a growing need to be more sustainable.
Not that long ago it was normal to buy a fridge, a tool, or a vacuum with the expectation that it could be repaired if it broke down. Sadly it's not the expectation anymore, ever since planned obsolescence has become the industry standard we are no long able to expect our ability to repair those things.
I feel strongly that we should have the right to repair the goods we purchase. In my own small way, I am doing my part to help keep the knives and tools you purchased or inherited in good repair and in the best condition possible.
And in doing so saving the need to buy an inferior new product designed to fail without the possibility to be saved.
I look forward to meeting you and helping you maintain your favorite or much loved knives and tools.
Feel free to reach out and say hi, or with any questions about what I can do for you.
